After a dominant year, Sonic Motor Racing Services have taken the Australian Formula Ford Championship ( AFFC ) crown yet again, this year with talented youngster Cameron Waters at the wheel of the SJ11a Mygale chassis.  It has become a familiar sight to see all three, and sometimes four, of the Sonic Mygale cars locking out the top spots in qualifying and racing over the last few years.

His 2011 AFFC win makes Cameron the youngest ever Australian Formula Ford Champion, a feat that is difficult to comprehend when you consider that Formula Ford has raced continually in Australia for over 40 years.  Some of Cameron’s peers that have won the championship are , Greg Ritter ( Mygale 1999 ), Luke Youlden ( Mygale 2000 ), Jamie Whincup ( Mygale 2001 / VD 2002 ), Tim Blanchard ( Mygale 2007 ), and Nick Percat ( Mygale 2009 ).  Each of these drivers are real proof that Formula Ford is without doubt the place to build your motorsport career.

Cameron Waters has shown the way in 2011 holding the AFFC championship lead from round two, and has never looked back.  The Mildura teenager even managed to star in, and win, the Shannons Supercar Challenge television series that was run by V8 Supercar team Kelly Racing.  After making it all the way through, while other contestants fell around him, Cameron was rewarded with the drive in the Kelly Racing V8 Supercar at Bathurst, teaming up with well known driver and media personality, Grant Denyer.

The Sonic Motor Racing Services team continue to impress, “I have been to many countries and dealt with many teams, and the professional approach of Michael Ritter and the Sonic Motor Racing Services team places them as one of the best teams I have seen in the world today, in 2009 Sonic won every championship that they competed in!” said Mygale’s Greg Woodrow.  “The competition needs to continually lift their game if they want to compete against a team like this, and this is making Australian Formula Ford the worlds best”

Cameron’s raise to fame has been impressive, with the Mildura teenager competing in karts, then a quick stint in Formula Vee, where he made contact with Greg Woodrow on a test day, and moved straight into state level Duratec Formula Ford.  Cameron won the CAMS Victorian Formula Ford championship in a family prepared SJ06a Mygale and moved to Sonic at the end of the 2010 AFFC season.  The rest is now history, and Cameron can place his name firmly beside some of Australia’s greatest drivers on the Australian Formula Ford Championship list.
