Gear Ratios - Member Advice
      Dear Member,

The FFA committee has been reviewing Formula Ford gear ratios and the following advice is issued to take effect from 1/04/2016.

Proposed         Regulation:
Ratios:  A control first gear is mandated according to         diff ratio.
        All other ratios are free
        Diff         ratio                               First gear ratio
        10/31                                       15/36
        13/36                                       14/36

The introduction of a control first gear will eliminate the practice of adopting a tall 1st  gear to act as a conventional 2nd  gear.
A tall first gear places an added pressure on the clutch that the introduction of a conventional control first gear will eliminate.

This will provide a cost saving to the competitors with reduced maintenance cost throughout the season.

The proposed rule does not provide a performance advantage.

There will also be an increase to the width of all cars (FF and FF1600) of 10mm to accommodate the size of the new tyres. we expect these rules will be confirmed by CAMS shortly.

Should you require any further information regarding these changes please contact Phil Marrinon   Ph  03 9560 8519 or your State committee member.

      Regards,
