Simon Hodge/BRM on pole again, wins the round

and keeps the lead of the Championship

Simon Hodge/BRM won round five of the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship, in one of the upsets of the season at Queensland Raceway.

In the qualifying, Hodge’s record lap secured him pole by the third-smallest margin in F3 qualifying history – 0.0040s. Hodge scoring pole meant he would lead by 12 points before the races started.

In race one, though the battle was tough and though Hodge put a lot of pressure on the leader and remained glued to his car, he couldn’t manage to pass him and had to finish 2nd. In race two, Hodge was unfortunately penalised with 5 seconds as he rolled of the start, dropping down to 4th place.

Then, the big-points feature went the way of the Team BRM M11 Mygale when he won the start and led into turn one in race three. He pulled away to win from there to re-establish a 13-point lead at the top of the Gold Star standings with three rounds to go. After enduring difficult starts for a majority of the season to date, it was the race three launch that ultimately got Hodge the round victory at Queensland Raceway.

The next round of the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship will be held at Philip Island on September 19th to 21st.
